Disney+ has a lot to offer fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but actress Adrianne Palicki is hoping for one more thing: a series based on her character, Mockingbird. Palicki first played Mockingbird/Bobbi Morse on ABC’s long-running series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. She joined the cast in season 2 episode 5, soon after co-star Nick Blood. Blood played Lance Hunter, Bobbi’s ex-husband and fellow member of S.H.I.E.L.D. The two were quickly promoted to series regulars, with fans enjoying both their characters and their chemistry together.
Palicki and Blood remained with the show until midway through season 3, when Bobbi and Hunter were put in a position where they had to protect S.H.I.E.L.D. and their friends by leaving the organization. Off-screen, Palicki and Blood left the show to film the pilot episode of the potential spinoff series Marvel’s Most Wanted. The show would have followed their characters while they were on the run and required to make alliances with rogues outside of S.H.I.E.L.D. However, ABC ultimately passed on the project, and Palicki hasn’t been back to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. since.
Now, Palicki shares that she would love to return to the world of Marvel as Mockingbird, specifically on a Disney+ series. Yesterday, Palicki reacted to the news that MCU show Hawkeye is rumored to be delayed indefinitely. Sharing a gif of Bobbi’s introduction on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and a link to an article about the Hawkeye news, Palicki captioned her tweet, “If you need something to take its place, I might have an idea.” She also referenced her past relationship with Marvel, adding, “(You have my number, Marvel)” and tagging the mega studio for good measure. Check out Palicki’s tweet about Mockingbird on Disney+ below:
Disney+ has made headlines in the last year or so for a number of new Marvel series that will be considered a part of the MCU. In addition to the possibly delayed Hawkeye, they have WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Solider. After an original release date of spring 2021, Marvel recently announced that WandaVision will now premiere this year. That series will feature Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany reprising their roles from the MCU. Meanwhile, The Falcon and the Winter Solider will focus on Captain America’s buddies Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes joining forces. Disney+ has always planned on a late 2020 launch for that show.
It’s understandable that Palicki is still rooting for a Mockingbird series to come to fruition. Not only was the finished pilot for Marvel’s Most Wanted rejected, a similar show that also would have starred Palicki and Blood was dismissed the year before. In that case, the series never even made it to the pilot stage. The character of Bobbi made a huge impact in her time on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. with many fans hoping for one last glimpse of her during the show’s final season this summer. If ABC can’t make a Mockingbird series work, maybe Palicki is right to look elsewhere, such as Disney+.
