Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., will explore its latest major story arc, when season 4 recommences next week. After weaving quantum physics and demonic possession together in a Ghost Rider arc, the show launched its LMDs plotline and Radcliffe’s construction of the Framework. The ending of the most recent S.H.I.E.L.D. episode threw viewers into the deep end of that alternate reality, revealing that Ward is alive and dating Daisy, Simmons is dead, and Hydra is fully in charge.
The Framework storyline should thus provide lots of payoff for longtime viewers, while allowing the show’s cast to sink their teeth into different versions of their characters. While’s it not been established that Hydra reigns supreme and Inhumans are part of a hated resistance in the Framework, there are plenty of questions that remain to be answered. Fortunately, the show’s promotional arm has been giving us hints.
Two new Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. posters have arrived (via the show’s Twitter account), teasing the status quo within the Framework. The first poster may be the more interesting one, as it gives us a glimpse into a very different version of Fitz:
The tweet came with the caption “The Doctor is in.” From the looks of things, we could see Fitz holding a role similar to Radcliffe and testing a version of the Framework inside the Framework. Another option is that he’s a torturer of some kind. He certainly doesn’t look like a hero in the poster, and his charge appears to be in plenty of pain. Meanwhile, we’ve seen a clip showing Daisy and Ward back in action together. Now, we have a poster teasing the two joining forces with May, as Agents of Hydra.
Along with these two new glimpses into the Framework, we also got a look at Coulson’s civilian life the other day, which teased a cataclysmic event in the new reality. More and more questions keep piling up, but they should all equal one exciting arc on what’s become one of the better comic book TV shows still going on the small screen. With the return of the TV series right around the corner, expect more little peeks into the alternate world that is the Framework, before viewers finally get to enter that alternate reality themselves.
