It would be a miracle if you could find a superhero who has been through more tragedy than Daisy Johnson (Chloe Bennet). Otherwise known as Skye and Quake, Daisy is a superhero best affiliated with the show Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. She was first recruited back in season 1 as a computer hacktivist. She then became a valued member of the team when she trains to be an agent.
There is no doubt that the woman seen in season 6 was completely different from the one found at the beginning. S.H.I.E.L.D. managed to mold her into a fierce and strong hero; however, the agency is instrumental in Daisy losing her optimistic attitude as she has born witness too many tragedies. Here are 10 of the saddest Daisy moments.
Finding out the truth about her birth (S1 Ep12)
One of the main reasons Daisy joined the team was to find out her origin story. She revealed to Coulson (Clark Gregg) that she joined the Rising Tide to try and find her parents. When she found a document that was redacted by S.H.I.E.L.D., Daisy decided to infiltrate the agency.
Coulson promises to look into it for her but only ended up giving her more questions. When she finds out that an entire S.H.I.E.L.D. team was killed trying to protect her, she breaks down in tears. Daisy then visits S.H.I.E.L.D.’s wall of valor to pay tribute to the agents who saved her.
When she was shot (S1 Ep13)
Daisy got her first war wound in the episode “T.R.A.C.K.S.” after Ian Quinn (David Conrad) shot her in the stomach. This was one of the first times fans saw Daisy caught off guard; it also showed how inexperienced she was in the field too.
However, it was without a doubt one of the saddest moments as Quinn left her to bleed out on the cellar floor. As she begged for help, the team were scrambling about the mansion trying to find her. After they secure Daisy in a hyperbaric chamber, the team all get emotional at the prospect of losing her. It was the first time fans saw how much she meant to the team.
Finding out Ward is Hydra (S1 Ep19)
Daisy’s first love interest came in the form of Grant Ward (Brett Dalton). When Daisy first met Grant, they didn’t get off to the best starts. She thought he was uptight and Grant believed her to be a liability; however, their relationship took a romantic turn after Daisy managed to break down his emotional walls.
This relationship came to a screeching halt when it was revealed that Ward was a Hydra mole. Daisy found this out the hard way when she stumbled upon the dead body of Agent Koenig (Patton Oswalt). She then goes into the bathroom and proceeds to break down. It was the first of many betrayals she would face.
Breaking down over Trip and her powers (S2 Ep10 & Ep11)
Daisy suffered a lot in the second part of season 2, particularly when she acquired her Inhuman abilities. They came with a cost when Trip (B.J. Britt) died trying to save her from the Diviner. As he kicked the crystal off the podium, a piece of it was lodged into his side. Daisy watched on in horror as his cocoon crumbled because of her quaking powers.
Daisy then struggled to accept her newfound abilities, worried that the team would not accept her. She almost brought the playground down upon them all when Fitz (Ian De Caestecker) confirmed her worst fears. Daisy sobbed into his arms when Fitz promised to help her figure it out.
Losing her parents, again (S2 Ep22)
Fans were overjoyed to see Daisy get a brief glimpse of happiness when she got to meet her parents. In the episode “Melinda”, Daisy has the chance to find out about her past when Jiaying (Dichen Lachman) invites her to a family dinner. She and Cal (Kyle MacLachlan) tell Daisy the origin of her birth.
Yet, Daisy would have to settle for more heartache when it was revealed that Jiaying was the new antagonist. As Jiaying tried to kill her, Cal decided to intervene before it was too late. Daisy could only watch on as he killed Jiaying. She was then forced to say goodbye to her father when he goes through Project T.A.H.I.T.I.
Breaking down in Mack’s arms (S3 Ep21)
Daisy suffered another hardship after she became infected by Hive (Brett Dalton). Hive had managed to get Daisy under his control and proceeded to use her as a weapon against S.H.I.E.L.D. As a result, Daisy ended up killing Malick (Powers Boothe) and using her powers on Mack (Henry Simmons).
When Lash (Blair Underwood) managed to remove Hive’s influence, the team detain Daisy in one of their units. Mack decides to visit her and make sure she is okay; when Daisy requests he leave, Mack refuses. He also tells her that he forgives her for attacking him. Daisy tries to fight him but breaks down when he pulls her into a hug.
Lincoln’s death (S3 Ep22)
The writers had led fans to believe that Daisy was going to sacrifice herself in the season 3 finale. So imagine the surprise they got when it turned out Daisy’s boyfriend had managed to find his way onto the Zephyr. Lincoln (Luke Mitchell) pushed Daisy out of the vehicle and took off with Hive on board, knowing he would die.
Daisy then shared an emotional farewell with Lincoln over the intercom. The rest of the team could only watch as Daisy begged him to come back. She even pleaded with Coulson to help save him, but it was too late. The intercom cut out as Lincoln confessed his love for her. She watched helplessly as the Zephyr blew up, killing him and Hive.
Finding out Coulson is dying (S5 Ep13)
One of the show’s best relationships was between Daisy and Coulson. After losing her parents, Daisy looked to Coulson as a surrogate father. Daisy confessed that without his influence and support, she would not be the woman and agent she was. So when she found out that Coulson was dying, she was devastated.
Coulson dropped the news in the worst way when he revealed he wanted her to be the new Director. Daisy was hurt that Coulson was going to hide the information and give up without a fight. Coulson later tracks her down where she proceeds to break down in his arms.
Confessing she is still in love with Lincoln (S5 Ep20)
Two years on and it still appeared that Daisy’s heart was set on Lincoln. This was revealed when Deke (Jeff Ward) was about to confess his feelings for the superhero.
Just as the scavenger was telling her how he believed they had a connection, Daisy shut him down. She revealed to Deke that everyone who gets closer to her ends up dying, including Lincoln. As she delves into their history, Deke comments that she must have really been in love with him to which she replies: “I kinda still am”. It’s sad that she feels she cannot open herself up to anyone else out of fear that they would die.
May dies in her arms (S6 Ep13)
After Ward’s betrayal, May (Ming-Na Wen) and Daisy grew closer as she became her new S.O. May also grew into the role as the team’s mother figure, protecting them and providing emotional support whenever they needed it (circa season 5).
Fans were shocked to see that May had apparently died after saving Daisy from Izel (Karolina Wydra). Daisy ran to her aid, comforting May as she asked about Coulson. Daisy gets upset when May tells her she hoped to see him again. The final nail in the coffin was how she says “she’ll see him soon enough”. Daisy cries as May passes away.
