With season 4 coming to a close, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is set to bring back season 2 regular Simon Kassianides within the Framework. Kassianides joined the show during its sophomore run as Sunil Bakshi, a member of Hydra. Bakshi was a loyal member of the organization during the time when Daniel Whitehall had reclaimed control, but later unwillingly helped Ward – which ultimately was the cause of his demise. He met his end near the end of the season at the hand of Simmons, in what could be her darkest moment.
Even though his role was not as large as a number of other characters, Kassianides made a lasting impression. S.H.I.E.L.D. currently has the unique ability to bring back anybody with the team trapped inside the Framework, and it has now been confirmed the show will use that plot device to bring Bakshi back.
ABC has released a synopsis and photos for next week’s episode of S.H.I.E.L.D., titled ‘All the Madame’s Men’. The synopsis teases Aida’s terrifying secret being uncovered, but the larger plot is described as: “Daisy finds herself teamed up with an unlikely partner. Meanwhile, Aida prepares to put her ultimate end game into effect.” While the cast list does not reveal Kassianides return, the photos bring Bakshi back in his typically well-dressed manor.

This is a welcome surprise for viewers of the superhero drama. With his appearance now confirmed, Kassianides’ previous interactions with fellow S.H.I.E.L.D. vet B.J. Britt lends additional credibility to another character’s return. As with everyone in the Framework, this does not appear to be the same Bakshi as before. This version seems to be a news anchor of some sort.
Whatever his role in the episode may be, Kassianides return could be the start of several more surprises throughout the season’s final episodes. The Framework has already allowed the series to bring back Brett Dalton as Ward, and more social media speculation has pointed to a possible return by Lance Hunter. Even if season 5 is becoming more likely, the abundance of call backs is something Chloe Bennet promised before, and will likely give the season a strong conclusion with series-wide implications. But, while fans wait to see who else may appear in the Framework, they can at least cross Bakshi off their lists.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. continues Tuesday April 18 with ‘No Regrets’ at 10pm on ABC.
