Empire Magazine has released another Alien: Covenant-themed cover, ahead of the film’s theatrical release next month. Serving as a sequel to director Ridley Scott’s Alien prequel/spinoff Prometheus, Covenant (also directed by Scott) follows a whole new cast of intergalactic explorers who come into contact with the eponymous creature of malevolent intent. There will be returning players from Prometheus in the film too, however.
As the eighth film overall in the franchise - including the crossover movies Alien vs. Predator and Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem from 2004 and 2007 - Alien: Covenant promises a further glimpse behind the curtain of the enigmatic Engineers that were featured heavily in Prometheus; at the same time, introducing a new breed of Xenomorph, in the Neomorph. Considering the fact that Scott has been readily forthcoming in regards to his plans to continue making Alien movies well into the foreseeable future - with the next one coming in the form of Alien: Awakening - fans will undoubtedly want to take notice when Covenant reaches theaters.
On that note, Empire magazine has just unveiled its second magazine cover to be released in support of Alien: Covenant, offering another head on look at the titular creature of mayhem and terror. Taking obvious inspiration from a snapshot of the Neomorph that many viewers will unmistakably remember from Covenant’s trailers and TV spots, fans of the franchise will probably want to pick up a copy of the latest issue of Empire magazine when it hits newstands tomorrow. Check out the new Empire magazine cover below:
Based on all appearances offered thus far, Scott definitely looks like he’s trying to get back to the basic elements that made his original Alien film such a monumental hit. Borrowing from some of the horror genre elements that made Alien a nearly uncontested sci-fi classic, Alien: Covenant should offer plenty of incentive for potential viewers to line up in droves to see the new installment in the prequel/sequel series.
Prometheus may retain its status as a highly contentious entry in the larger franchise, but with Alien: Covenant perhaps fans of the original quadrilogy will be more pleased with what Scott has to offer in his third production in the overarching series. Only time will tell whether or not Covenant has the steam to make it as a serious box office contender, but here’s to hoping for the very best from Scott and company in the meantime.
