Most of the cutscenes in Cyberpunk 2077 will be from a first-person point of view. CD Projekt Red began development on Cyberpunk 2077 in 2016, shortly after finishing production on the final DLC for The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt. The studio has spent the past three years working on Cyberpunk 2077, releasing details here and there to keep gamers interested. It recently introduced a “deep dive” video that demonstrated more of what players can expect.
Early details revealed that Cyberpunk 2077 is a massive undertaking for CD Projekt Red. The studio previously stated that it is “far far bigger” than anything they’ve done before. The company’s reputation for delivering quality games has guaranteed that the title remains highly-anticipated. Fans got even more to be excited about after Microsoft’s 2019 E3 presentation when Keanu Reeves took to the stage to announce that he was a character in Cyberpunk 2077. CD Projekt Red has since revealed many details about Cyberpunk 2077, showcasing how important the company feels in making the game as immersive as possible.
The cutscenes of Cyberpunk 2077 will also feel immersive. Although early footage showed cutscenes from a third-person point of view, the deep dive video revealed many cutscenes in first-person. However, players will still occasionally get to see their protagonist while they’re playing the game. There is always a chance of glimpsing the main character’s face in the mirror and on security cameras. Driving scenes also seem to be an exception to the first-person rule: those will be viewed from a third person perspective. Marcin Momot, CD Projekt Red’s global community lead, took to Twitter to further explain the use of first-person in cutscenes:
After footage of an in-game poster revealed what seemed to be a sexualized trans person, CD Projekt Red also recently stated that it was looking into adding a transgender option to the character creator, although it has since confirmed it won’t even have players specify their gender in character creation at all instead. The company also seems to understand that inclusion will further bring players into the experience, particularly those who don’t identify as strictly male or female.
CD Projekt Red continues to express how much it wants players to feel immersed in the game’s environment. Inclusion is undoubtedly part of that, but using first-person point of view for nearly everything, including cutscenes, will also keep players engaged with Cyberpunk 2077. First-person will also make cutscenes feel more organic, keeping players actively in those scenes, rather than just having them feel as if they are spectators watching from afar.
