Netflix has released a new teaser for season 2 of their hit science-fiction series Altered Carbon, which confirms a release date of February 27. The first season of the series premiered on the streamer almost two years ago, on February 2, 2018, and is based on Richard K. Morgan’s novel of the same name. Set more than 300 years in the future, Altered Carbon explores a world completely transformed by technological advancements, where people who can afford it are able to essentially live forever by transferring their consciousness to a new body. The lead character, Takeshi Kovacs, is the last of an elite group of rebel warriors from centuries in the past. He is brought back to life by a man named Laurens Bancroft, who needs him to solve a murder: Brancroft’s.

The world of Altered Carbon and its terminology, like how the technology of “re-sleeving” works, is complicated, but the series does a great job of explaining and setting up everything. As the characters are able to be put in different bodies, this gives the show an opportunity to utilize many different actors to play the same characters. In season 1, Joel Kinnaman played Kovacs, and in flashbacks he was also played by Will Yun Lee and Byron Mann. Season 2 will have Anthony Mackie, known for playing Sam Wilson/The Falcon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, taking on the intense character.

The teaser trailer was released on the show’s Twitter this morning, along with the caption “Your re-sleeving is now complete. 2.27.20. #AlteredCarbon.” The video confirms that the release date for the new season is February 27, just over a month away. Beyond that, there’s no more new information or footage revealed in the trailer. The video slowly unveils a new logo for the second season, with the graphics themed around the “stacks” in the show, which are little implant chips that store the consciousness of each person.

Netflix hasn’t released any news about the show since they announced the Altered Carbon season 2 cast last February. In that announcement video, they introduced Mackie as Kovacs, another Marvel alum Simone Missick (Luke Cage) as a character named Trepp, Dina Shihabi (Jack Ryan) as Dig 301, Torben Liebrecht (Operation Finale) as Colonel Ivan Carerra, and James Saito as Tanaseda Hideki. It also officially announced that two actors would be returning in season 2: Renee Elise Goldsberry as Quellcrist Falconer and Chris Conner as Poe.

Following in another actor’s footsteps is always a tough job. With this show, Anthony Mackie will have to take in the performances of all three actors who previously played Kovacs and portray that in his performance, while also making it his own. After Altered Carbon, Anthony Mackie will return to the MCU to face off against Baron Zemo in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, the upcoming Disney+ series costarring Sebastian Stan. Along with the upcoming new season, Netflix has previously announced that they are expanding the Altered Carbon universe with an anime film. After how enjoyable and action-packed the first season was, it’s exciting to finally be returning to the world of Altered Carbon.
